Saucier Homes and Condos for Sale

The area now known as Saucier, Mississippi, was first settled by the Saucier family sometime in 1848. In the very beginning, Pierre Philippe Saucier moved to the northwest but eventually sold his land and moved to Mississippi where he purchased several thousand acres of land in present-day Wortham for 25 cents an acre. Pierre and his sons cultivated the land and built a home near a creek they eventually named Pierre Creek. In those days, their home was the only one for as far as the eyes could see. After some years, his older children got married and all built homes on the same swath of land. The Pierre family made most of their income from farming cattle, hogs, sheep, farming various crops, and in the timber and logging business. In those days, it would take the Pierre’s a day to travel to the coastal cities, which is where most of their goods were sold. Accused of aiding and abetting the Confederate States, Pierre Philippe Saucier was sued by the United States government and forced to give up 160 acres of his land, which was then given to the Gulf and Ship Island Railroad. After suffering a stroke, Pierre passed away in 1874 while in the care of his wife, Elizabeth Moore Ramsey, and his five step-daughters. It wouldn’t be until 1901 that Saucier would be incorporated.
