Long Beach Homes and Condos for Sale

Up until 1774, the Choctaw Native American tribe was the only ones who called the area of Long Beach, Mississippi, home. During the mid-1700s, Europeans lived on Cat Island and had friendly relations with the Choctaw. It would be in 1788 that those European settlers moved to the mainland and began building houses in the area of Bear Point Bayou. During the 1800s, the descendants of the first European settlers followed in their ancestors’ footsteps and moved to Bear Point Bayou and chose it as a site to build their homes. In the 1870s, a railroad was constructed through the area connecting it with New Orleans. Once the railroad was finished, New Orleanians started traveling to Bear Point Bayou for vacation. This is what led to the present day tourist business. Some of those who visited the area back then decided to become permanent residents which contributed to the earlier growth of Bear Point Bayou. In the 1880s, as more and more folks began to move into the area, the town was platted and started taking its present-day shape. The amazing part of this town’s story is on July 1, 1905, the Artesian Well Company was formed by the residents. With the establishment of the Artesian Well Company, the residents also decided they were ready to incorporate their little town. The only problem was they needed a few more members to join their community before it could be incorporated. One large family who shared their dream decided to take up residence there and the town was incorporated under the name of Long Beach.

The small town atmosphere of Long Beach coupled with its close proximity to cities such as Gulfport and Biloxi make it a perfect place to settle down.
